Hi Everybody,
WE DO EXIST! Recently, we had someone tell us that they have a friend or a family member that doesn’t believe in us. This has always tickled us. The way people word it, you would think that Chiropractors and Acupuncturists are fictional characters like Santa Claus or the Easter Bunny. But we are not- I assure you that we exist!
What people really mean when they say this is that they don’t believe that Chiropractic and Acupuncture work. The problem is that the medical community has mucho money! They are able to fill the TV and radio airways with commercials touting their products, and even have the media publishing the results of research on their products- even bogus research that was bought and paid for by the pharmaceutical company that created the drug.
For some reason, most people believe in what they see on TV, no matter what- and not much else.
MONEY! Many people believe that medicine works but not other systems like Chiropractic and Acupuncture because they see the medical commercials telling them so. They even see TV shows and movies depicting conventional medicine in heroic lights. You don’t usually see Chiropractic and Acupuncture commercials though, or see them mentioned regularly in movies and TV shows.
The reason for this is money. The medical groups have the money. The Chiropractic profession had to pull together through donations and save up money for a couple of years to be able to afford ONE commercial to run during a prime time TV show. Pharmaceutical companies have so much money they run these same expensive commercials all day every day. Additionally, if a TV station ever runs a Chiropractic or Acupuncture commercial, does a report that portrays us in a good light, or runs a TV show or movie where we are portrayed in a good way, the pharmaceutical companies threaten to pull their advertising money from that station.
Every single time this has happened, the TV station has backed down and pulled the pro-chiropractic piece off the air. It even happened when we saved up for those years to get ONE commercial during a prime time show. When our commercial was set to air the pharmaceutical companies found out and went ballistic. They got the TV station to move our commercial from the prime time spot we paid for to a 3am slot where no one would see it.
THE WORLD HEALTH ORGANIZATION- For those of you that have friends or family that don’t “believe” in what we do, you may want to know that there is actually oodles of research proving both Chiropractic and Acupuncture, we just don’t have the money or political clout to put it on TV like our medical counterparts.
There is so much positive research on Acupuncture alone now that the World Health Organization (WHO) has officially claimed Acupuncture to be scientific, and also claimed it to be effective against a long list of health conditions, including: acute and chronic pain, migraines, tension cluster and sinus headaches, trigeminal neuralgia, bladder problems, bed wetting, neck pain, mid back pain, low back pain, tennis elbow, post-operative pain, stomach problems, asthma, allergies, skin conditions, hemorrhoids, high blood pressure, fatigue, anxiety, neuorologic syndrome, various eye problems… and the list goes on.
For those who have to see it on TV to believe it, Chiropractic and Acupuncture is still a long way off. The proof is there… just not the money.
Hope this helps,
Dr Robin Barnes
