Hi Everybody,
(Note-This is a repeat of last week’s newsletter. Many people didn’t receive it due to the changes we have been undergoing. Our apologies, and we hope to have everything back on track!)
LIFESTYLE- If you look at the healthiest people on the planet, one of the main commonalities they have between them is that they have adopted healthy habits into their lifestyle. They don’t go absolutely crazy, they simply make taking relatively good care of their health a part of their lifestyle.
On the other hand, if you look at the least healthy people in the world, aside from people who do not have enough food or clean water, one of the main commonalities they have between them is that they don’t make any real habit of doing healthy things and taking care of their bodies. Instead, they rely on doctors, surgery and medication to save them once they have an emergency.
What the healthiest people do in the beginning, the unhealthy resort to in the end.
THE CHIROPRACTIC LIFESTYLE- This is seen dramatically in our health care system. The healthiest people on worldwide things like chiropractic, acupuncture, massage and other ‘natural’ forms of healthcare like we use barbers and dentists here – as simply a part of the upkeep of their bodies. In addition, they limit junk food and get a bit of exercise. Nothing drastic, they just take little things and make them a continuous part of their life. In school, we simply called this mentality the ‘Chiropractic Lifestyle’.
This is not meant to be so strict that you hate everything you eat, or so strict that you spend all your time thinking about your health. Not at all. It means to take baby steps in adding things that help you to feel better and live longer, and turn them into habits.
AMERICAN HEALTHCARE- Our healthcare system is a great example of the reverse. Most people only use chiropractic, acupuncture, massage and other physical approaches to better health as emergency-only treatments. They come in completely broken down and hope by some miracle we can reverse the problem. If not, they undergo strong medications and surgery.
In the same way, most people only change their diet and start exercising for the 2 weeks before bathing suit season. And when they do start exercising and changing their diets, they go to such extremes that no one could keep it up for the long haul.
Baby steps made into habits become a way of life. Evidently the high cost of healthcare due our refusal to take responsibility for our own health is one of the biggest problems threatening to bankrupt America. Our politicians won’t fix it, and the medical industry doesn’t want to because it cuts into profits. It is up to each of us to take our health, and the health of our families, into our own hands, one baby step at a time.
Hope this helps,
Dr Matt and Dr Robin
