Hi Everybody,
Here are a few new tidbits for you…
INTELLIBED HINTS- We’ve had quite a few patients buy an Intellibed recently, and the reviews seem to be good so far. We have one ourselves and like it very much. We have figured out a thing or two that may help make your bed even better if you have one.
When you get your Intellibed, try sleeping on different parts of the mattress in the beginning. What happens is the gel softens up just a tiny bit during use – only about 5%. After that it should not deform at all for 30 years (if you get the medical grade, 20 years if you get the regular grade mattress). If you do not lay on the mattress in different spots then the spot you lay on will soften up slightly but not the spots around it. Its no big deal, you simply scoot over and lay on those other spots to soften them up too, but it helps to just go ahead and do it in the beginning. It states this clearly in the instructions, but like most people we didn’t do that right off the bat. If you are thinking of buying a new bed in the near future, learn about Intellibed products at www.intellibed.com .
OBESITY COMMONALITIES- According to the ongoing research performed on the obesity issue, the most obese areas of the United States seem to be in the poorest areas and the areas with the least amount of education, which seem to go together.
We are putting a diet book together for those of you that are interested. We are hoping that education will make a big difference for people. There are so many diet products, diet books and diet supplements out there that most people are more confused than ever about what to eat.
Warning – this book will be more focused on diet as a lifestyle change that leads to better health, with weight loss as a side-effect if it is needed. It will not be a quick weight loss method that you do for a short period of time before going back to your old way of eating. We are hoping to present small changes you can incorporate into your life over time that become habits.
ALTERNATIVE THERAPY SAVES MONEY- A new study has been released based on data from the 2002-2008 Medical Expenditure Panel Survey. What the researchers found was that people who used alternative medicine tended to have much lower overall health care costs. The study was mainly focusing on spinal care, but they also found that people using alternative medicines like chiropractic and acupuncture had lower overall health care expenditures as well.
Interestingly, the correlation was so strong that many researchers thought that the people that used chiropractic and acupuncture were simply healthier and more intelligent to begin with. This did seem to be the case – the more educated and health conscious a person was the more they tended toward using alternative or natural medicines. However, even with that taken into account, the researchers found that alternative medicine patients had lower health care costs.
Do not expect to see any of this on television or in the media, though. TV shows make most of their money by commercials, and the pharmaceutical companies have threatened to pull their advertising money if a show runs a truly positive piece on alternative therapy, especially chiropractic.
Hope this helps,
Dr Matt and Dr Robin
