THE FLUORIDE CONTROVERSY- There is quite a bit of controversy over Fluoride these days. It is nothing new, but it is kicking up quite a storm again.
Advocates of Fluoride say it prevents cavities, but detractors point to evidence that it lowers IQ, calcifies the pineal gland and harms fertility, among a wide range of other problems.
Fluoride is commonly being added to our water supplies, salt and milk additives, as well as many medications.
TOXIC?- Many in the alternative health community have fought against the addition of Fluoride to our food, water and drug supply ever since it was introduced. Some of the reasons for their objections are finally coming to light scientifically.
For example, in a systematic review of the literature published in the journal Biological and Trace Elements Research in 2008, it was found that “children who live in a fluorosis area (high fluoride exposure) have five times higher odds of developing low IQ” than those who live in an area where their fluoride exposure is low or normal. Other studies have found that over-exposure to Fluoride is associated with:
1. Decreased fertility and birth rates in most animal species studied. (J Toxicol Environ Health.1994 May ;42(1):109-21).
2. Spontaneous Abortions, i.e. miscarraiges (Am J Ind Med. 1995 Dec ;28(6):751-69).
OUR MAIN CONCERNS- Obviously, the whole toxicity debate is a major concern overall. In our clinic, we see a great many people with fibromyalgia, thyroid disorders and infertility problems so these are the areas that affect us most directly. All of these disorders are also being found to be possibly linked to Fluoride exposure.
WHAT TO DO- If you think you may be sensitive to Fluoride, or you think you may have a problem due to Fluoride toxicity, the first thing to do is to avoid as much exposure as possible. Drink non-fluorinated water, get a filter for your bath or shower (you can absorb Fluoride through the skin) and if given a medication, ask for one that does not contain Fluoride if that is possible.
Secondly, there are several compounds known for helping to kick Fluoride out of the body, or at least help lesson the effects of Fluoride Toxicity on bodily tissues. These include: Iodine, Amla Berry, Tamarind, Aloe Vera, Turmeric, Holy Basil, Black Berry, Black Tea, Methioine, Arjuna, Vitamin C, Vitamin D, Chinese Skullcap, Coenzyme Q-10, Melatonin, Royal Jelly, Vitamin E, Pycnogenol and Quercetin.
By avoiding exposure, and adding a few of the compounds known to push Fluoride out or diminish its effects (don’t try to take them all), you should be able to lower your Fluoride burden and see if it is causing or adding to your problems.
