What is Chiropractic?
Doctors of Chiropractic practice a drug-free, hands-on approach to health care. The most common and well known treatment by chiropractors is the ‘spinal manipulation’ also known as a ‘chiropractic adjustment’. The purpose of the adjustment is to restore proper motion and alignment to the bones of the spine which can become restricted from tissue injury. This injury may be due to something traumatic, like a car accident or a fall, or through repetitive stress like sitting in an awkward position with bad posture for a period of time, or repetitive motions at work. In either case, physical and chemical changes occur in the injured areas and can cause pain, inflammation, and discomfort. Adjustments restore proper motion to these areas which can alleviate pain and muscle stiffness and allow the tissues to heal.
Chiropractic adjustments rarely cause discomfort, though some soreness or aching is experienced by some patients following treatment (similar to soreness after exercise). This soreness usually dissipates within 12 to 48 hours. Most people find adjustments to be pleasant.
While people associate Chiropractors with the spine, which is our specialty, many don’t realize that we are also trained in the treatment of extremities. Things like knee pain, shoulder pain, carpal tunnel syndrome, plantar fasciitis, and even ankle and wrist problems are often successfully managed by Chiropractors, all without drugs or surgery.
Chiropractic is not just about relieving pain. Many people who use chiropractic regularly, even when they have no pain, experience the enhanced health benefits that come from a properly aligned spine.
A Word About Chiropractic Techniques
Over the years we have tried to learn and master a variety of techniques. We believe the more of a “bag of tricks” we have the more able we are to be effective in a wide variety of situations.why choose chiropractic
As such, we have tried to combine the best of what we have learned in Chiropractic, Acupuncture, Acupressure, Chinese Medicine, Vitamins, Minerals, Herbs, Nutrition and even some Massage-type techniques.
We utilize both low force (light) Chiropractic Techniques as well as regular force Chiropractic Techniques, as we have found that different people respond better to different levels of force. In the same way, we have learned various styles of chiropractic Acupuncture from very gentle to stronger forms.
Each individual is different, so each approach is different, and we try to have enough tools and adaptability to meet the differing needs of each case we see. The end result is all that matters.
