Autoimmune Disorders and Leaky Gut

Hi Everybody,

AUTOIMMUNE DISORDERS- Autoimmune disorders have been explained for years as disorders where the body is attacking itself. This includes diseases like Lupus, Hashimotos Disease, Scleroderma and Rheumatoid Arthritis, among others.  However, our understanding of what is actually going on is starting to change.

LEAKY GUT- One of the newer understandings of Autoimmune Disorders is that some may be caused by “Leaky Gut Syndrome”.

Leaky Gut Syndrome is a disorder where the small intestines become damaged. Once this happens, undigested food particles, bacteria, viruses and parasites that normally cannot enter the body now enter it through the damaged intestinal walls.

Once in, they settle into different tissues in the body. When the body attacks the invaders, the organ the invaders have settled in also become damaged.

UNKNOWN VIRUSES- Another new theory is that Autoimmune Disorders actually are caused by bacteria and virus that we simply cannot detect or know how to treat yet.

This would be like a new Ebola or West Nile Virus – something new, but instead of causing immediate health danger, it works slowly and methodically over many years.

TREATMENT- So it follows that the newer understanding of Autoimmune Disorders tells us that healing any damage to the linings of the Small Intestines and increasing the immune “intelligence” of the body (like with immune enhancing herbs or mushrooms) may be a very wise approach.

Medically, perhaps soon we will be able to detect and treat a wider range of bacterial and viral invaders.

Hope this helps,

Dr Matt and Dr Robin
